A time

I was asked today about the following questions. Rather than reinvent the wheel- I will just copy and paste!

1) Motivations- I have two elementary aged boys in the district- 3rd and 4th grade at Meadowlawn. My third boy is a toddler but he'll be joining his brother's soon enough. I have been very active in their education. There has been a significant change to our special education program this year in our district. This really peaked my interest in becoming more involved. Both older boys have varying special needs so not only am I concerned for the general education population being successful and independent but the special education population as well. Not only is this a challenge for our educators but a culture change for everyone involved. It is also a great opportunity to build better relationships, create tolerance/understand and produce more inclusive and mindful students.

2) Board's role/responsibilities- I feel my role, should I be elected, is liaison. I feel there can and should be more parent involvement in what goes on with our district. I feel the board members should be very much in touch with what the educators are struggling with (tools for teaching, social obstacles, budget effects etc) and what the parents view as needed and necessary. I have spent my entire career in Human Resources. I worked at Steelcase for 13 years. I understand the need for common goals, trust, and communication. Without these three, it doesn't matter what our budget is. Our growth and success is stunted if we don't work together to ensure our children have meaningful, independent, and successful adult lives.

3) Tenure and terminations: Having been in HR for several years, I firmly believe in the teachable moment. When a member of the group is not performing to ability and standard, I believe it is vital to the success of the whole team to bring the issues to light and engage in conversation. Goals should be set and agreed upon.

4) Endorsements: no political parties have endorsed me and I have not asked any groups to support me. 3 members of the current school board said I have their support.

5) my goals if elected:

work closely with parents, educators, administration and community to discover cost cutting measures that do not adversely impact our children's education

continue to support the integration of special education with general education- supporting both the culture and ensuring educators and parents have what they need to be successful

work on committees to engage parent and educator communication - increasing participation in our PTC's

fully support common core - ensuring the educators have the understanding and tools they need and ensure parents are fully informed about the how's and why's of the program

Who is Angie Forton? Part 1

Part 1

I thought I would type some of my thoughts and the positive effect I could have as a Kentwood School Board member.

Budget

Hard to think about education without thinking about budgets- especially in the past few years. This state has endured many hardships. My family has struggled with the same unemployment issues faced by many other families in my neighborhood and community. Worrying about finances makes it hard to focus on other important issues.

My point : Our district, like most other districts in the state, are going to face budget cuts. It is just a matter of how much. We need to stand together as involved parents and community members and start meaningful conversations about ways to do more with less. I feel the parents, administration, and educators need to draw on the experiences and knowledge we have to be successful. We need to understand and trust that the education, testing, and results are taking us in the right direction. If there are doubts, then those need to be voiced.

The Kentwood district had an increase in enrollment this current school year. This means houses in the neighborhood are starting to move, new families are starting to come into the district, and there will be fresh ideas to share. Kentwood is home to a population that represents over 60 countries and languages. This is a fantastic opportunity to draw on that wealth of knowledge and culture. No doubt that is also challenges. When we look at the budget -we cannot discount the needs of each child. For example: we need to ensure the arts programs have an equal seat at the budget table.

Together - the parents, educators, and administers need to work together, trust each other, and approve a sound budget that does not stunt the growth of our children's education and competitiveness. We have to prepare our kids for professions and fields that haven't even been invented yet.

Part II coming soon!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://the3suns.blogspot.com/2011/03/who-is-angie-forton-part-1.html' title='Who is Angie Forton? A couple upcoming events for you to get involved in the Kentwood Public School Board Election Election day is May 3rd. The public forum will be held at the Kentwood Public Administration building on Eastern on Thursday April 14th at 7pm. This is a chance for the public to get to know the candidates. A series of questions, important to parents and community members, will be asked of each candidate. WKTV filmed each candidate answering questions. The final cut should be available on the Chamber of Commerce website on or after April 4th. WKTV will also air the final video a couple times in April. Those dates haven't been confirmed yet. Visit this blog often for more events and details. Want to support my election campaign? Tell your family, friends, and Kentwood neighbors to come visit my blog. I would like to count on your support. Let me know and I will get you involved. I am printing yard signs soon so there will be plenty to do!

Another new picture- I couldn't create this hair if I tried!

2 boys and a green iguana! I elected to stay with this blog because it is who I am- a mother of three boys- two currently in the Kentwood Public School system. I have a vested interest in the quality of their education, an obligation to participate in neighborhood events, and support my community. So far, I have received overwhelming support from parents, the school's my children have attended, and school administration. Where has the time gone? I cannot even imagine how many parents have said that since the dawn of time. It still is as true....

We just celebrated William's 10th birthday. TEN! double digits! His birthday marks the end of summer and the start of school. William is going into 4th grade. Another marvel of life...advancement in school. I look back at his previous school pictures. Amazing. His favorite pasttime (minus of course video games) is drawing and creating comic books.

Zach is 8. He will be nine after the new year. He is blazing a trail to 3rd grade. We just met everyone's teacher last week. He is our dancer. Everything has to do with music.

He and his big brother spent a lot of time in the water this summer- at grandmas, in the backyard in the pool, sprinklers. And what a hot summer. Perfect weather for water!

Isaac, Mayor McCheese, is our dyamo. He will miss his entertainment when they go back to school. He is all toddler and all 2....mood swings, attitude and all kisses when he wants. He has such a winning smile, it is hard to stay mad after the peas & macNcheese flies through the air.

I'll back again sooner, I promise! Then the 20 day sneaks back up on me and out we haul boots and gloves again. And just like the weather, there are times I think of her often and other times, she is just comfortably in the background. But I am certain she will never leave. I happen to believe that folks that aren't alive are still with us. And I can tell you there have been a few times that while playing with Isaac in the afternoon, driving to or from work or doing mundane activities, I will suddenly think of her. Again, just my belief, but I think at that time she is thinking of me, hanging out or something is connecting. Or maybe it is wishful thinking. Whatever it is...doesn't matter really. I just know the memories come back and I relive them and it is good. I mention her to the kids once in a while- the foods she liked, didn't like, things she liked to do etc.. I think it is a good idea because as they grow up, I don't know about you, it is nice to have interests or tastes related to others sometimes. Kids can appreciate the fact that there is someone else out there that likes/dislikes the same stuff they do. Especially when it is someone that loves them and they love back. and it ISN'T mom and dad!

So here is to GG...

GG part 1

Hmmm, well the picture is a bit smaller than I thought it would be...but you get the idea! It is a picture of GG and William from the 2007 calendar. It is kind of an interesting feel because you know the shot on the blog is not the direct picture...which would be timely for this blog and it's purpose.

We got the call about a year ago that she had passed. Not a surprise as her health had been steadily failing since October -nonetheless sad. Then ensued the mad dash to pack, arrange, and get to Mt. P for the wake and funeral. And we were lucky enough to be in the same state! Thou shall not complain too much!

So a year later, there is plenty to reflect upon. I now have three sons. Isaac is 10 months old now. Blonder than blonde, full of life and personality. He is starting to scoot around and cruise the couch. Now if only I could get him to sleep through the night. One thing I do wish was that GG could have held him. I have a feeling she is around and has seen him but to really hold him, that would have been great.

Now, what better way to celebrate a person's life is to remember the fun and good times? What did GG like!? Chicken wings, bacon, microwave fries, "little porkies", okee dokee popcorn and a cup of soda during evening programs, being teased about the Green Spot, Golden Coral (oh, no one said your taste was ALWAYS good- no one is perfect) everyone to take their shoes off at the door (lest we be able to OPEN and SHUT the door with all those shoes there), for us to come and stay a while (or longer if possible), loved to tell us what was in the fridge and for us to eat at least one of each thing in the fridge, babies..she loved babies, Could not understand when they got to be about one year old why they just won't stay on her lap quietly, and family. She really loved getting everyone together at the holidayz. I remember when I was really young, we used to have 4th of July at her house. That was back when everyone would put a beer or two away- even her.

So, how has she influenced my life!? Well, now, like her, I have three children. And JUST LIKE HER, I have already started calling everyone by someone else's name. I did not think that was going to happen for a while. But when you think about it Zach and Isaac have similar sounds. You know it is bad when you call kids by their brother's nicknames. Then you know it is downhill from here. I make coffee and then cannot figure out where i put it. Hmmm, that might be GG or my mom - most likely both! I really feel blessed I got to live with her during college. Now, had you asked me my opinion at the time, it might have been a bit different. But now as I reflect- i got to know her much more than I would have otherwise. What is that phrase, something about hind sight!?

Part 2 will following this entry soon!

ice, anyone!?

<img style="display:block; so, where to begin since it has been a while... the first picture is a fantastic picture of Isaac and his Bousha. The spelling of her Polish nickname is under discussion. Once her and Eli agree, she will let me know if it is sha or cha. Believe it or not, all 5 of this pictures were taken with my iphone (which I STILL love) the only thing I don't like is the fact I can only stand in two rooms in the house and get phone reception. Move to the kitchen or baby's room and I risk dropping the call! I digress...
Second picture is of Isaac and his best daycare buddy Tristan. When I show him this picture, he just grins from ear to ear. They truly do have the best time together.

3and4 are of da'boyz and their latest Lego creations. I was very proud of both of them because other than a piece or two, they put the ships together themselves! That is the best thing about Legos...there are so many possibilities!

The last picture is daddy and baby. This picture was just taken this past weekend. If you haven't heard, Isaac is battling RSV right now. It is an upper respiratory virus that can be dangerous especially to those children under 2 years old. He has a good wheeze going but the doc said he should be just fine in about a week. I had planned to go visit my good buddy Elizabeth in the hospital and to meet her new baby Charlotte Lynn but with RSV visiting us, we could not go visit them. Big bummer too because I am off the week while Steelcase has a shut down of it's GR plants. All the things you want to do if you had time to do it. Now I have to see how baby is feeling before I am able to check off anything on my to-do list. He spiked a temp of 102 yesterday. He has been such a trooper. Every smile I get makes me feel a bit better. At the very beginning, I had considered flying to Denver to visit Matt and Mandy. It just was not good timing and boy, am I glad I did not reserve tickets. With him being sick like this, I am very glad I did not plan to leave.

look at him go!

So let me tell you what you are looking at!
Picture #1 is one of Mark's Christmas presents. I had all of his 10 pieces printed and framed for our living room. It was really neat to see all of them printed and in the same place. It is a large frame and takes up most of one wall in our living room. It commands the attention when you walk in the room
Picture #2

This is a snapshot of the publications his pieces have been in thus far. What I did not (and could not) take pictures of was the art exhibit he was chosen to be in DC for the inauguration. He is also featured in several fellow blogs and other websites.

All of this is very exciting. It is inspiring.

It also brings some reflection. With any dream, one must ask themselves...what is success? When has "one arrived"? Who's gauge do you use? The media? the all mighty dollar? The neighborhood gossip? I asked Mark this one time....and he said recognition. Doesn't have to be money- just the fact that people that don't know him like his work, appreciate what he does and the work inspires. That is why this breakthrough holds so much weight. Not only is it folks really liking what they see but the content itself is very important. Like this success, President Elect Obama indicates change and hope. The tall challenges facing our next president will cause his administration to pick and choose what gets done first. This is not unlike anything in life. There is an adage at Steelcase- when starting a project- 70% right is good enough to get started- improve as the process develops. And like creating art, if one never starts, one will most definitely will never finish. Keeping the engine warm and choosing what to do next is half of the fun.

Mark, I am very proud of you, now keep it up!

hear that?

So, there is a story my parents used to tell me. I always thought A) it was a neat story because of how they could tell I was awake as a baby and B) that they could hear me at all. Now as a parent of three kids, I can relate to how life continues but takes on such profound and simple changes.
So here is the story....

When I was a toddler and when my parents would have friends over, I would be in my crib sleeping. With the noise of the guests and music playing, they would stop mid-sentance and say "Angie is awake" This would always surprise the guests. With all the commotion, how in the world would they be able to tell I was awake? They could hear my nails scratching on the crib sheet. That is is some pretty powerful hearing.

As I was putting Isaac down for a nap and walking out of his room, I heard the distinct sound of his nails scratching on the crib sheet. I stood in the doorway for a minute and just listened remembering the story. It always amazes me how well Mark can hear the baby crying - kids running around, fan on, tv on and he will look at me midsentance and say "Isaac is awake!"

Here is to keen hearing!

This is a favorite activity in our house right now. Unless football is on, you get his complete and undivided attention. Today we tried peeled grapes (huge success) and again tried carrots (not so much). Cheerios are always a hit and rounded it out with mashed up noodles. Yum-o.

Christmas rounded out with a visit from Grandpop. Grandma Jan was down for the count with the flu so we are hoping she is feeling better. We watched some quality Lions action and rounded it out with some freshly baked banana bread! As one devoted Lions fan's sign said

"0-16 living the dream"

Now that the snow is returning, we are going to try to do a little more sledding before the school machine starts up again. I am not sure who is dreading school more: me or the kids. There is so much that goes into getting 3 kids out the door each day. Homework and activities surrounding school is a whole other 900 word essay that Wackie Burnacki used to require us to write. I was just also so glad that I had Kamp instead!

Tomorrow we are aiming for Bounce Party. It did not happen the other night like I had originally planned. Daddy was hangin with baby....I loaded up Will and Z to go get Jon. All was well til we got to Jon's when I realized my back tire was nearly flat. Now, keep in mind, I have a brand new minivan so this should not be happening. When I limped to the first gas station (4 miles away-EEEK) the air was not working. So, another mile down the road, the air pump seemed to not be working (unbeknowst to me, that was NOT the problem) and at the third gas station, while applying the air pump to the valve steam, it crumbled in my hand. Uh, this REALLY should not be happening. So now there is NO air in my back tire, the van is full of impatient kids ready to run off the stink, it is dark and 20 degrees. Are we having fun yet? So, Jon's mom comes over to get us, I have to call a wrecker and watch him change the tire. You might be asking yourself: Why didn't Mark come get them? The answer would be....mommy had the carseat in the (you guessed it) MINIVAN!

For those of you who know me, I would not normally call anyone to change a tire. But being this is a much larger vehicle than I have ever driven and because of the fanciness of this minivan, I could not FIND the spare, I thought it best to watch someone first. In five minutes and $68 later, I was on the road again. Now I know how to change a minivan tire. I can cross that off my 2009 resolution list!

Happy New Year to all. May the up coming year not be as horrible as they are predicting!
<div Nah, no truth to that whole "global warming" nonsense.... peshaw

I got my other Christmas wish, to have a house full of boyz and sleeping in. I know Christmas only comes once a year, but it was sure nice to groggily look at the clock this morning to find it was after 8am. Most morning start at 5am in our house. Thankfully it is usually just baby and I til around 6:30. Of course on weekdays, it takes an act of congress to remove Zach from his warm and comfy bed. Wonder why that changes when we have nowhere to go.... hmmmm.

Among the gifts, Dr. Who could be seen EVERYWHERE! Guys, ships, videos a plenty. God save the Queen and the BBC. Wowee Tribot was also a hit. Nothing says "great toy" like a 30 second commercial every time you turn him on. He talks about how great the company Wowee is ...warms the heart. Such little consumers they are producing! William got lots of Bionicles and Transformers. Another dark horse in the running was the Looney Tunes video they got. Daddy and I loved to watch them as much as the boyz did.

I think for me, this time of year is about reflection. I also love the food. I really look forward to making sugar cookies. I just forget how trying the decorating becomes after doing the 50th cookie. By that point, I am ready to just dip the whole cookie in whatever frosting is closest! With the extra time off, I look forward to trying new cooking receipts. That was made even more exciting this year as daddy bought me new green pans and receipt books. Quick, easy and healthy- very excited! Now the challenge is to get the boyz to try something other than the 6 meals on their very limited menu- hot dogs, chicken nugs, pb&J, scrambled eggs, pancakes and waffles. My mistake, how could I forget pizza? At least they have their priorities straight...half of their fav meals are breakfast! I even take them out once in a while for breakfast.

More pics to come!

Victoria Secret....revealed

So the heavens provided Mark and I a good laugh today. While Christmas shopping we stopped in to Victoria Secret to use my birthday coupon. Upon asking for my id, she saw pictures of the family and Isaac next to my license, which led her to ask "oh, are these your grandkids!? The baby is really cute". I stood their dumbfounded, not really sure I heard her right. After leaving the store, I turned to Mark and asked if I heard the girl correctly. Ok, I might be turning 35 on Thursday but sheesh...do I really look like I am a grandma?? Mark and I made cracks to each other all night. So now I know Vickie's secret...you can be buying unmentionables while being asked about your grandkids. amazing.

"no sugar added"

So here are da' pictures of the very very LATE LATE birthday party for William today. Yes, it was a pj / sleep-over theme. Theme only, I don't think i could EVER have this mean kids over night! For those of you who know what month William was born...you may shake your head in wonder and nod your head when they nominate me as top ten worst moms. Because he was born the end of August (before school starts) I had no way of inviting his school friends. Fast forward to September which gravitates to October which slides into November which finally stops in December. What the heck, add another birthday to the month!
He was very happy his friends were able to make it. We watched WALL-E and ate popcorn. As for the title of this blog entry, you truly had to be here to understand. As you can see, we had seven 7-8 year olds in the basement. I think if we could harness their shear energy, we could have had enough energy to heat a small city. I was truly amazed to see Skinnybob come out at all. Of course, it was only when the kids were up to the table eating cake and ice cream. Smart Bob...old but smart. It is hard to believe Christmas is a little over a week away. Hard to believe I am almost another year older. At times I feel like i have aged 20+ years. I am sure this a very common thought for a parent with young kids. I think the more kids you add, the more common it is! :-) and with that thought, g'night!

removing any doubt

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v4.nonxt2.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3D942ef38fb381ded6%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331642532%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D2814A442111E5479E168DBD4EE25C88466D4BB65.15FD162AD25F1DEFF10D09B69729AE6750564BAE%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3D942ef38fb381ded6%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3Dg1I9tPgUIQOp5IoXs0WnDRoUJcc&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />
This video tells it all. The sheer love of the Doctor of Who. And now my dear brother can prove to his British coworker friends that the game Dalek Operation was truly for his nephew and not himself! But thankfully, we will only have one turkey dinner. One can only eat so much bird. This year's theme is Mexican food. Last year it was Indian. Maybe next year it will be German? Only time will tell! The weather is frosty outside, really time to get plastic up on the windows. What a necessary pain. Still no pearlies for the baby yet. He is chewing on everything in sight (see a couple entries below for further proof) so we are waiting to see when they pop out. Will and Z get out half day next Wednesday so they are excited as well!
Cheers!

Life after land line

and here it is ladies and gents....the wave of da'future! Here is a picture of all of us in the mirror room! And no, we did not plan to ALL wear green in State country.

take one and call me in the morning

They do say...an Apple a day...keeps the doctor away. Do you think they meant this?? Can you say teething???????

the little spartie

Here is the big man and his cap. Hard to believe his 97 percentile head is almost too big for it. Ya know what they say...big head, big brain! squeezed very tight and Z -probably not enough but here is a great picture. Afterward, there was nothing but motorcycle talk. And of course, they both want one for Christmas. We will add that to type='text'>Driveway Races

Last weekend we were taking advantage of a cool fall Saturday with the driveway races (see below). I don't think we improved relations with our neighbors as we were rather loud. After we did this several times, all four of us took a walk on the Kent Trails which runs practically in front of our house. It is so hard to believe it is already October. Isaac is almost 6 months old. I remember when he was born, both the boys were ready to play Legos etc with him and were rather unimpressed with all the crying and sleeping. I told them around Halloween time he would be probably sitting on his own and would probably be ready to roll the ball to them and exchange some smiles. Well, both of these are ready to come to pass. He does sit a few seconds on his own before toppling over. He is full of smiles and is especially interested in his brothers right now. We they enter the room (and it is always a LOUD entrance) he is looking all over for them. They rarely stop moving so it is challenge for him to keep them in sight.

With fall comes the season of extra clothes. Oh, this is the part I DON'T enjoy. Now three kids, three sets of everything- boots, mittens, hats, snow pants.... I love the colors of fall, the cooler nights, the dwindling warmth of the sunlight, pumpkin hunting and the costumes. But there is something to be said for leaving the house in the morning in a t-shirt and sneakers.

So this year, we will have a Bumblebee and an Indiana Jones in da'haus this Halloween. I think Isaac will be doomed to a recycled costume...most likely Tiger. If it is a cold night, chances are he won't even go on the candy trail. Daddy wants to be a Thug...one of Joker's clan. But the only mask he can find is the one that covers the head- way too hot. So he has a V for Vendetta mask which is really cool when he wears a hoodie over his head. Mommy needs to figure out what she is going to be. Grandma D wants to come join us on the candy trail, we will have to get her an outfit too!

<object load.

I personally invite you to vote. Given the current state of our economy (two attempts now to pass the bailout and counting) the state of world affairs and the frightful state of our environment - you must have an opinion. I personally don't feel we can afford 4 more years of the same. I work in the human resources field and it is really bad around here. I get requests from employees wanting to get at their retirement funds to pay bills and pay medical bills piling up. My client group have the average age of 49 years old. They have worked years in the same company - all their eggs in the same basket.

On November 4....where is your voice?
<object width="320" height="266" brother is very proud of his baby. Because Isaac is getting better at holding his head steady, holding Isaac is easier for William. William is convinced that Isaac knows karate. So, that makes him a baby timelord (thank you Dr. Who and Z) and now a Karate master. William helps Isaac karate chop his toys and stuffed animals. Most times Isaac thinks that is a blast and laughs out loud. Z loves to come over and talk to Isaac as well but hasn't stayed in one place long enough to get a picture. I also hope to get a picture of Isaac and his buddy Tristan from daycare. I came to pick him up yesterday and they both were on the mat together babbling and smiling at each other. They are about the same age, Tristan is about 2-3 weeks older.

School is going well. Everyone is trying to adjust to early waking hours and getting to bed at a decent time. I really have to say I am blessed to be able to be home when school is out. I walk across the street for Z and William arrives on the bus shortly after. It gives us more time to talk about the day, get homework done and get dinner ready.

One thing that is somewhat exciting is I signed up for www.seemommyrun.com. There isn't a running group for Kentwood so I kinda "started" one. It is an army of 1 so far. And if anyone joins, it will be more motivating for me. I toss the kid in the stroller and head for the trail. Once I figure out Z's bike chain (anyone have advice on how to KEEP the chain on the bike) then Will and Z can ride bikes while i jog/walk/run with the babe.

<img width='1' height='1' William is in 2nd and Z is in 1st. Z's teacher said he asked every hour when was it time to go home? I don' t exactly remember, but I am sure it is culture shock to go from 1/2 day to full day of school. Picture day is on the way and here comes the flood of daily papers..homework, slips to sign, PTA's to be on ....recycling to empty... at least most teachers are now on (and check) their email. That is the way to go. Permanent record and not all the clutter. They have had a good week so far. Getting into the routine, catching buses, meeting new teachers. Of course, I have to remind them they must eat lunch and THEN go out to play. I remember back in the day, we had like 45 minutes for lunch. They have less than 30. It takes at least 10 minutes to get through the hot lunch line for pity sake! Thus we have developed the nightly ritual of packing the lunch. They get to choose the food and they are more likely to eat it! 2008. 2nd grade. Wow. Hard to believe. Where does time go? As a little kid, summers seemed to last forever. High school...time still was not an issue. College was different- couldn't wait to work the summer job and then once the job started, I couldn't wait to get back to school. Time itself just did not seem to pick up speed until I had kids. Then it became lighting fast. 8 years ago I was newly married, freshly graduated college, working my first job and having my first baby. William is a wonderful boy. Full of curiosity, so sweet and friendly. He has the memory of an elephant...be careful what you tell him (and especially what you promise) because he DOES remember. Full of energy..he and his brother Zach are real buddies. They are lost without each other... This year Will is into Legos. Thus our trip to Chi Town. It always amazes me the things he creates and the stories that go along with his creations. When he is older, I am going to encourage him to record his stories. And like every parent, I want only the best for him- a safe, happy, healthy life and world. Happy Birthday William!

ibaby

The butt says it all....ipoop. Should also say ifart and ispitup...but those aren't as cute. But isn't he? Their first trip to the big city. Daddy said it best: when you are parked and walking, the town is second to none. To drive to and from would require words not best used here. Every exit is another interstate which does not take you the way you were coming. Aside from the extra time traveling, we had a great time in the hotel and taking in the sites downtown. As you can see, it was all about Legos... William will celebrate his 8th birthday on the 26th so he picked out some batman (ahem...Dark Knight, excuse me) legos as did his bro.

Family Reunion

So I braved a trip with three kids from Grand Raggdy (as Shauna would say) to Higgins lake last weekend. Daddy was in need of a good rest so off we went in the new wheels...dubbed the "shuttle". The trip up and back was ok...pretty much what I expected: rough at times when the baby wasn't into trippin quietly and not bad when he was sleepin and the boyz were DS'in.

The visit was fun. The company grand. The weather, not so much. We had sunshine on Friday, a touch on Saturday and none on Sunday. Cold, rainy and windy was not what we requested. We went on the jetski once and on the boat once. A trip into the garage revealed mopeds of long ago. Aunt Lori and Uncle Brian gave the thumbs up and the da'boyz got to ride on a moped for the first time. Zachie is still getting the hang of "hold on and don't lean over" but William had that down pat. The ride could have topped out at 55mph but we maxed at 10mph (it WAS a dirt road, after all). Aunt Cher took many grand pictures so once get some of them, I will be sure to post some.

Unfortunately, we all caught colds and are still recovering. Sore throats go along with crappy weather as things you don't want on a fun summer trip. Cannot wait for next year!

WARNING - CRAZY BABY AHEAD

I was attempting to get a picture for Isaac's crib at the daycare center. This weekend we are in search of kid friendly events that may or may not be indoors. It is supposed to be blazzin hot this weekend so that will be a factor. Next weekend we are off to the Homan reunion. Fun will be had by all, fingers crossed the weather cooperates as most activities will be outside on jetski's and tubes. This will be the highlight of the older boy's summer thus far. Jet ski's were the talk for several months after last year's reunion and I would expect more of the same this year. The following weekend we will attempt a visit to Chi Town for Lego store. This should be a blast. William's 8th birthday is nearly upon us...so this trip is aptly planned. Will is a Lego FREAK! A shout out to Blanche for watching the babe while we travel. Thank you! Then I think we have down time til we go to TC for Labor Day weekend. Provided, again, the weather is nice, we will live at the beach til it is time to pack up and head home to resume school duties.

We are starting to email folks about their dogs...in hot pursuit... cross your fingers for us. William and Zach are anticipating a dog by the end of the month so we have'ta deliver!

"...because the sky is blue...it makes me highhhhh...."

"...and to drink ...Peru!"

Thought I would expose my children to some classic films today. Better off Dead is one of my 80's favorites. And John Cusack is one of my fav 8o's actors...who moved on to other fantastic films...such as One Crazy Summer, Garden of Good and Evil, Being John Malkavich and High Fidelity. As I watch it, I realize there is a person missing from this movie...his sister Joan. She appears in nearly everything he is in....Gross Pointe Blank, High Fidelity, Must love Dogs....

Dancing hamburgers, cooking strange legged beasties, armadillo-lined coats and trying to "go that way, really fast, and if something gets in your way, turn". These are the things I hope the kids get from this movie. That and an appreciation of good humor. If you haven't seen it...it is a movie about a hapless highschool guy trying to win the girl back and having crazy things happen to him in the process of falling in love with the right girl. Everyone needs a good laugh..and what better thing to bestow on a child than cultivating their ability to laugh at life and not let it drag them down. The attitude we have about life is half the battle.

"...gee Rickie, sorry your mom blew up...."

So, I have added some pictures...all my babies and a dragonfly. Yes, that insect is real. I caught him while I was hanging up laundry this weekend. I could not believe I caught him. We all oogled at him for a couple minutes and then set him free again. Something as simple as that ...a dragonfly...is the reason I try to do things for the environment. Hang laundry (love the smell of clean clothes) to reduce energy used, reuseable bags at Meijer, reuseable water jugs vs plastic waterbottles etc. But what is more important is what we impress upon our our kids. Turn off the lights, finish your food, shut the fridge, eat your carrots....when I utter these things, I am sure I am channeling mothers since the dawn of ....birth, I guess. A mothers natural instinct: create a world that encourages children to grow but without the extra stress of the current day. I was really active with the Tibetan movement and concerned about the environment when I was in highschool and college. I think that tripled when I had my first child. The world really does look different after that small event occurs. The need to protect and allow one to flurish is an internal wrestling match.
and now for something completely different....
Off to dig the glass out of my husband's foot and ensure all three boys are in bed before dawn..

and then there was a minivan....

First I have to say thank you to my hubbie for a great logo. It symbolizes our three children, silver, purple and green- their birthstones. Well, silver is close to diamond... It looks great,Mark, you are very talented.

Second..how cool is this! We are now blogging! No myspace or facebook...too much of a risk for catching nasty viruses.

So, what has been going on...well, had our third baby in April, the 12th to be exact. Isaac has gained nearly 10 pounds since he was born. 3# a month, 2oz a day. Mandy expects he will be walking by ..what, 7 months? ;-) He holds his head independently, yep, 7 months is probably about right. He is way mellow and we love it.

William loves his new baby brother. I will find him in the baby's room doing puppet shows for a captive audience. Once in a while he feels the need to rearrange or remove toys from the crib but they all return in good time. He is NOT excited to return to school in September. What 2nd grader is? What he is excited about though, is Batman. I have not seen it and daddy says it will be years before any of the boys see the latest installment, but he is all about the cartoons and the lego sets. Thus, we are in the midst of planning a Chi Town trip to visit the lego store. He will be 8 in August.

I can tell you one grade schooler that is excited for school...that would be our middle child Z. He and daddy found Dr. Who lunch boxes and Cybermen backpacks so he is all about the goods. Probably could care less about the whole learning thing....that is secondary to the right look. Boy if they had Tardis school apparel....it would be all over. We are just a'waiting the final episode of season four. Doctor Donna? hmmmm..

Skinny bob is doing well. For those that did not know...Lokie took his exit about the time Isaac arrived. I guess he had enough of the household, decided to strike out on his own. He had been running out every time the side door opened. One time too many, I guess...He is missed. Mark and I have had him since we were in college. Yipe, that has only been 10 years.

Markus is doing well. Very excited, near Nirvana, about Batman. We have a date set up for next Saturday night (thanks Sam!). I try to encourage his creativeness....create create create! Too many good movies out there to see, Iron Man, Hell Boy II, Batman...and everything set to come out in the next year, Transformers II, New version of Tron. We took the boys to Binder Park Zoo last weekend, it was great. Haven't been there? If you like giraffes, you would love this zoo. Next time, though, no stroller! and we'll pick a cooler day!

Ok, I think this has droned on long enough. So now ya know what has been happening ...next stop, random thoughts!

First post

So, here it is our first post!
