8 years old, August 26th 2008.  2nd grade. Wow.  Hard to believe.  Where does time go?  As a little kid, summers seemed to last forever. High school...time still was not an issue.  College was different- couldn't wait to work the summer job and then once the job started, I couldn't wait to get back to school. Time itself just did not seem to pick up speed until I had kids.  Then it became lighting fast.  8 years ago I was newly married, freshly graduated college, working my first job and having my first baby.  William is a wonderful boy.  Full of curiosity, so sweet and friendly.  He has the memory of an elephant...be careful what you tell him (and especially what you promise) because he DOES remember.  Full of energy..he and his brother Zach are real buddies.  They are lost without each other... This year Will is into Legos.  Thus our trip to Chi Town.  It always amazes me the things he creates and the stories that go along with his creations.  When he is older, I am going to encourage him to record his stories.  And like every parent, I want only the best for him- a safe, happy, healthy life and world.  Happy Birthday William!

Chi Town

We took the two older boyz to Chi Town. Their first trip to the big city. Daddy said it best: when you are parked and walking, the town is second to none. To drive to and from would require words not best used here. Every exit is another interstate which does not take you the way you were coming. Aside from the extra time traveling, we had a great time in the hotel and taking in the sites downtown. As you can see, it was all about Legos... William will celebrate his 8th birthday on the 26th so he picked out some batman (ahem...Dark Knight, excuse me) legos as did his bro.

Family Reunion

So I braved a trip with three kids from Grand Raggdy (as Shauna would say) to Higgins lake last weekend. Daddy was in need of a good rest so off we went in the new wheels...dubbed the "shuttle". The trip up and back was ok...pretty much what I expected: rough at times when the baby wasn't into trippin quietly and not bad when he was sleepin and the boyz were DS'in.

The visit was fun. The company grand. The weather, not so much. We had sunshine on Friday, a touch on Saturday and none on Sunday. Cold, rainy and windy was not what we requested. We went on the jetski once and on the boat once. A trip into the garage revealed mopeds of long ago. Aunt Lori and Uncle Brian gave the thumbs up and the da'boyz got to ride on a moped for the first time. Zachie is still getting the hang of "hold on and don't lean over" but William had that down pat. The ride could have topped out at 55mph but we maxed at 10mph (it WAS a dirt road, after all). Aunt Cher took many grand pictures so once get some of them, I will be sure to post some.

Unfortunately, we all caught colds and are still recovering. Sore throats go along with crappy weather as things you don't want on a fun summer trip.  Cannot wait for next year!

Wazz up

So August is here and it is a mad dash to cram in as much fun stuff before dreaded school begins. This weekend we are in search of kid friendly events that may or may not be indoors. It is supposed to be blazzin hot this weekend so that will be a factor. Next weekend we are off to the Homan reunion. Fun will be had by all, fingers crossed the weather cooperates as most activities will be outside on jetski's and tubes. This will be the highlight of the older boy's summer thus far. Jet ski's were the talk for several months after last year's reunion and I would expect more of the same this year. The following weekend we will attempt a visit to Chi Town for Lego store. This should be a blast. William's 8th birthday is nearly upon us...so this trip is aptly planned. Will is a Lego FREAK! A shout out to Blanche for watching the babe while we travel. Thank you! Then I think we have down time til we go to TC for Labor Day weekend. Provided, again, the weather is nice, we will live at the beach til it is time to pack up and head home to resume school duties.

We are starting to email folks about their dogs...in hot pursuit... cross your fingers for us. William and Zach are anticipating a dog by the end of the month so we have'ta deliver!

"...and to drink ...Peru!"

Thought I would expose my children to some classic films today. Better off Dead is one of my 80's favorites. And John Cusack is one of my fav 8o's actors...who moved on to other fantastic films...such as One Crazy Summer, Garden of Good and Evil, Being John Malkavich and High Fidelity. As I watch it, I realize there is a person missing from this movie...his sister Joan. She appears in nearly everything he is in....Gross Pointe Blank, High Fidelity, Must love Dogs....

Dancing hamburgers, cooking strange legged beasties, armadillo-lined coats and trying to "go that way, really fast, and if something gets in your way, turn". These are the things I hope the kids get from this movie. That and an appreciation of good humor. If you haven't seen it...it is a movie about a hapless highschool guy trying to win the girl back and having crazy things happen to him in the process of falling in love with the right girl. Everyone needs a good laugh..and what better thing to bestow on a child than cultivating their ability to laugh at life and not let it drag them down. The attitude we have about life is half the battle.
